Acupuncture to Relieve Sciatica

Sciatica is nerve pain due to an irritated sciatica nerve, the largest nerve in the human body composed of nerve roots from the fourth lumbar vertebrae to the third sacral. The sciatica nerve carries motor and sensory information for nearly the entire leg, so anything that affects the sciatica can lead to a great deal of pain and discomfort. Sciatica pain typically travels from the lower back to behind the thigh and radiating down the leg past the knee. Next to stress and back pain, sciatica complaints are the single most common complaint from patients.

How Sciatica Affects Your Life

Anything that puts pressure on the sciatic nerve elicits a wide range of aggravating and painful symptoms, from shooting pains down the back of the leg to numbness and tingling and even muscle spasms. A painful sciatica can slow you down and keep you from moving about comfortably or exercising regularly, all of which exacerbate the problem and create a host of negative conditions of their own.
